Maintenance, Support & Ongoing Development
NI Business Sales
NI Business Sales is a marketplace for buying and selling businesses across Northern Ireland. We did not build the original site — we took over maintenance of the existing Next.js platform, and we now look after it day to day, developing it further and supporting the team behind it.

Taking On Someone Else's Codebase
Keeping a live Next.js marketplace running, and moving it forward
Inheriting a working platform is a different job from building one. The site was already live and trading, so the priority was understanding it properly before changing anything — then keeping it stable while adding to it.
The Engagement
- Platform
- Next.js marketplace, built by another team
- Our role
- Maintenance, support and continuous development
- Sector
- Business brokerage across Northern Ireland
- Status
- Live and ongoing
The platform lists businesses for sale across Northern Ireland — food, leisure, manufacturing, retail, online, services, tech and media, franchises and wholesale — searchable by sector and by county, with accounts for both buyers and sellers. It is a real marketplace with real listings, which means downtime and regressions have a direct cost to the people using it.
- Inheriting the Codebase. Taking over a Next.js application someone else wrote starts with reading it — the data model, the listing and search logic, the account flows and the deployment pipeline — so that changes are made with the grain of the existing build rather than against it.
- Continuous Development. New features and refinements ship on an ongoing basis rather than in one large release, which keeps each change small enough to review properly and easy to roll back if it misbehaves.
- Dependencies and Framework Updates. A Next.js application left alone drifts out of support surprisingly quickly. Keeping the framework and its dependencies current is unglamorous, and it is the difference between a routine upgrade and a painful one.
- Performance on Listing Pages. Search and category pages carry a lot of imagery, and most of the traffic arrives on a phone. Those pages get the most attention, because that is where a slow load costs an enquiry.
- Support the Team Can Rely On. A route to someone who knows the codebase when something needs changing, checking or fixing — which for a live marketplace matters more than any single feature.
Not every project starts with a blank page. A good deal of our work involves picking up a site someone else built and making it dependable, current and easy to extend.
An Ongoing Relationship, Not a Handover
NI Business Sales is live, actively trading and still being developed. The work is continuous rather than a finished project: keeping the platform stable, keeping it current, and building on it as the business needs it. If you have a site you inherited, outgrew, or simply need someone reliable to look after, that is work we take on.
