Your November Marketing Calendar for Northern Ireland

The Densest Month of the Year
November has more commercial events packed into it than any other month, and they arrive in a specific order that rewards planning and punishes improvisation.
This year: Halloween ends on Saturday. Christmas begins on Sunday. The Belfast Christmas Market opens on Saturday 14 November and runs to 22 December. Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November, with the discounting starting a week earlier. Cyber Monday follows on 30 November. And in the middle of it all, ordinary trading continues.
Here is the month, week by week.
Week One: 1–8 November — The Switch
Sunday 1 November
Halloween comes down. All of it, that morning. Website banners, social creative, window displays, email templates. Nothing is worse for a brand than a pumpkin on 3 November.
Christmas goes up the same day. This is not too early. UK Christmas commercial activity begins in earnest in the first week of November, and the businesses that wait until mid-month are arriving after the decision-making has started.
If you built your Christmas assets in October as recommended in our Halloween marketing guide, this takes an hour.
The rest of the week
- Publish your festive content. Gift guides, festive menus, seasonal ranges, opening hours. Our guide to gift guides that rank covers the format
- Warm up your email list. Send something genuinely useful before you send anything promotional. Lists that only ever receive discounts stop opening
- Segment your list. Previous customers, recent browsers, cold subscribers. They should not receive identical emails on 27 November
- Get paid campaigns stable. Not the Black Friday creative — the underlying campaigns, so they have exited the learning phase before costs rise. Our guide to paid ads in peak season covers the cost curve
- Publish your Black Friday page as a "coming soon" with email capture. It starts accruing search signals and builds a list of people who have explicitly asked to be told
Week Two: 9–15 November — Freeze, and the Market Opens
Monday 9 / Tuesday 10 — the code freeze
From roughly the 10th, stop making structural changes to your website. No plugin updates, no new integrations, no theme edits, no checkout changes. Content and pricing only.
This one discipline prevents most peak-season incidents. The overwhelming majority of December outages are caused by a change someone made, not by traffic.
Before you freeze, make sure everything from our checkout optimisation guide and load testing guide is done and tested.
Saturday 14 November — the Belfast Christmas Market opens
The market runs at City Hall until 22 December, and it changes the shape of Belfast city centre for five and a half weeks. Footfall rises substantially, parking becomes harder, and evening trade extends.
If you are anywhere in or near the city centre:
- Update your opening hours for the whole market period, including any late openings
- Post about it on your Google Business Profile
- Write the practical content — parking, access, where you are relative to the market
- Brief your staff on the questions they will now be asked twenty times a day
Our guide to Belfast Christmas Market footfall covers this in detail, and it applies to businesses well beyond Donegall Square.
Also this week
- Confirm your Christmas delivery cut-off dates with carriers, and add margin
- Test your gift voucher purchase flow end to end
- Rehearse Black Friday. Who publishes the offer, at what time, who watches the site, who covers support, who has the hosting login
Week Three: 16–22 November — Build-Up
Black Friday is no longer a day. Most UK retailers now run something from the Monday of Black Friday week, and a good proportion start earlier still.
Monday 16 – Thursday 19
- Teaser emails to your warmest segment. Early access converts well and spreads load away from the peak
- Publish your delivery deadlines prominently. Product page, basket, checkout, homepage, email footer
- Final technical checks. Our pre-Black Friday stress test guide covers the list
- Write your support answers in advance. The ten questions you know are coming
Friday 20 – Sunday 22
- Early Black Friday offers, if you are running them. Many retailers now open the week before, and there is real advantage in being early rather than competing head-on on the day
- Christmas Market weekend two — city centre footfall is at its highest on Saturdays through this period
- Watch your site under load. This weekend is a genuine dress rehearsal for the following one
Week Four: 23–30 November — Peak
Monday 23 – Thursday 26
Main Black Friday build-up. Daily emails to engaged segments are normal in this window and largely expected. Keep an eye on unsubscribes — if they spike, pull back.
Watch your ad costs. Cost per click in this week can be double the October rate. If your margins do not support it, reduce spend rather than reducing price further.
Friday 27 November — Black Friday
Have someone watching the website, not just the sales figures. Checkout completion rate, page response times, payment gateway status, error rates. Our Black Friday live monitoring checklist covers what to watch and, more importantly, what not to change.
Saturday 28 – Sunday 29
The weekend continues to trade well and is frequently under-resourced because everyone focused on Friday. Keep support staffed and stock updated.
Monday 30 November — Cyber Monday
Behaves quite differently from Black Friday: more digital goods, more services, more desktop, more workplace browsing. It is the better of the two days for service businesses, subscriptions and anything non-physical. Our guide to Cyber Monday for service businesses covers the opportunity.
Immediately After
Do not stop on 1 December. The transition into December matters:
- Small Business Saturday is 5 December and independents in Northern Ireland consistently under-exploit it. Our Small Business Saturday guide covers the preparation, and it needs doing in the last days of November
- Switch messaging from discount to deadline. From 1 December, the persuasive lever is no longer price. It is "will it arrive in time"
- Update your delivery countdown daily
What to Cut
November has more opportunities than any small business can execute properly. Attempting all of them produces five mediocre campaigns and an exhausted team.
Choose based on what your customers actually do:
- Physical products, gift-suitable → Black Friday and the December deadline run
- City centre retail or hospitality → Christmas Market period and Small Business Saturday
- Services, B2B, digital → Cyber Monday and January planning, largely ignore Black Friday
- Everyone → correct opening hours, working checkout, honest delivery dates
The last line is not a campaign, and it produces more revenue than any of the others.
